Why is the thin ozone layer on top of the stratosphere crucial for human survival? Identify to which a part of electromagnetic spectrum does this radiaton belong and write one important application of the radiation?

Text Solution

Ozone layer present on top of the stratosphere
absorbs the ultravoilet radiations coming from
outer space and sun, and prevent them from
reaching the earth's surface.
Ultraviolet radiations have a frequency range
` 8 XX 10^(14) Hz "to" 3 xx 10^(17)` Hz. In electormagnetic
spectrum ultravoilet radiations occur in between
visible light and x-rays.
Ultraviolet radiations are used to destroy the
harmful bacterias and for sterilizing the surgical
instruments.
