Optical communication system having an o...

Optical communication system having an operating wavelength `lambda` metre can use only x % of its source frequency as its channel band width. The system is to be used for transmitting T.V signals requiring a band width of F hertz. How many channels can this system transmit simultaneously? Show graphically how this number of channels varies with operating wavelength of the system.

As wavelength of signal = ` lambda`, therefore, frequency
of signal, `v = c/lambda`.
As x % of source frequency can be used as channel
width. Therefore,
available band width `= x/ 100 xx v `
`= x/100 xx c/lambda`
Band width of TV signal = F
`:.` Number of channels the system can transmit
`n = ("availabel band width")/("band width of TV signal")`
`n = x/100 xx c/lambda xx 1/F = (cx)/(100 lambda F)`
Clearly, `n prop 1/lambda`.

The variation of n with operating wavelength of
the system is shown in figure.
