Fertilization and Artificial Hybridization

In this chapter, we will discuss fertilization and artificial hybridization. We will also focus on the types of fertilization, steps of artificial hybridization, etc. You would also be able to gain information on pollination.

What is Fertilization?

The most critical events in the reproduction process are fertilization and implantation. In plants, the process of sexual reproduction in plants is called fertilization that occurs after pollination and germination. A diploid zygote is formed when the fusion of the male gametes (pollen) with the female gametes (ovum) occurs during fertilization. To develop into a seed, the complete series of this process takes place in the zygote. Flowers play a vital role in the fertilization process because of the reasons of being the reproductive structures of flowering plants called angiosperms.
