The dimensions of a rectangular block measured with vernier callipers having least count of 0.01 cm are 5 mm `xx` 10 mm `xx` 5 mm. What is the maximum percentage error in the measurement of the volume of the block?

A

`5%`

B

`10%`

C

`15%`

D

`20%`

The correct Answer is:
a

Volume of the block = `Lxxbxxh`
`therefore` The maximum percentage error in the volume of the block is
`((DeltaV)/(V))xx100=[(DeltaL)/(L)+(Deltab)/(b)+(Deltah)/(h)]xx100`
But `DeltaL=Deltab=Deltah=0.01cm` = L.C. of the vernier
`therefore ((DeltaV)/(V))xx100=[(0.01)/(0.5)+(0.01)/(1)+(0.01)/(0.5)]xx100`
`=2%+1%+2%=5%`
