A diode AM detector with the output circuit consisting of `R=1 kOmega` and `C=1 muf` would be more suitable for detecting a carrier signal of:

A

10 KHz

B

0.5 KHz

C

1 KHz

D

0.75 KHz

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A

`R=10^(3) Omega` and `C=10^(-6)F`
For detection of a carrier signal (demodulation)
`RC gt gt 1/f`
In this case `RC = 10^3 xx 10^(-6) = 10^(-3) s`
In the given options, when f=10 Kz = `10xx10^3` Hz
`1/f=1/(10xx10^3)=0.1xx10^(-3) s therefore RC gt gt 1/f`
Thus the frequency 10 KHz can be detected
For `f=10^3` Hz, `1/f=10^(-3)` s and the other frequencies of 0.5 KHz and 0.75 KHz cannot be used for detection.
