A compund is made of two elements P and ...

A compund is made of two elements `P` and `Q` are in `ccp` arrangement while atoms `P` occupy all the tetrahedral voids. What is the formula of the compound?

A

PQ

B

`PQ_(2)`

C

`P_(2)Q`

D

`P_(3)Q`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

Suppose no. of atoms Q in the ccp arrangement = 100. Then no. tetrahedral sites = 200. As all the terrahedral sites are occupied by atoms P, therefore their no. = 200 . Hence, ratio of `P:Q=2:1` , i.e., the formula is `P_(2)Q`
