What is the volume of consumed during acid hydrolysed of 1.398 kg of sucrose?
(Given: molar masses of sucrose water =18, density of water = 1g/`cm^(3)`)

A

`0.072 dm^(3)`

B

`0.720 dm^(3)`

C

`0.18 dm^(3)`

D

`0.018 dm^(3)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

Hydrolysis of sucrose is as
`C_(12)H_(22)O_(11) + H_(2)O to C_(6)H_(12)O_(6) + C_(6)H_(12)O_(6)`
`therefore w = (1368 g xx 18 g)/(343) = 72 g = 72 cm^(3)`
`(therefore d = 1g cmp^(-3))`
But `1 dm^(3) = 10^(-3) cm^(3)`
`therefore` Volume of `H_(2)O = 72 xx 10^(-3) dm^(-3)`
`=0.072 dm^(3)`
