Can polymers like nucleic acids, proteins and starch be regarded as step-growth polymers?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Yes, nuclei acids, proteins and starch can be regarded as step-growth polymers which are actually condensation polymers. Large number of polynucleotides, `alpha`-amino acids and `alpha`-D-glucose units combine together with the loss of `H_2O` molecules leading to the formation of nucleic acids, proteins and starch respectively.
