If each edge of a cube is increased by 50% , then how much the total surface are a of the cube will be increased in percent ?

Text Solution

Let the side of the cube be a units .
`therefore` the are of the total surface are `=6a^2` sq- units.
The side becomes when it is increased by 50 % `=(a+a xx 50/100) ` units `=3a/2 ` units
Then the are of the total surface are `=((27a^2)/(2) -6a^2)` sq-units `=(15a^2)/2` sq units
`therefore` the total suface are of the cube will be increased in percent `=(15a^2/(2))/(6a^2) xx 100 % = 125 % `
Hence the required increment = 125 %
