In a vessel containing SO(3), SO(2) and ...

In a vessel containing `SO_(3), SO_(2)` and `O_(2)` at equilibrium, some helium gas is introduced so that total pressure increases while temperature and volume and volume remain the same. According to Le Chatelier's principle, the dissociation of `SO_(3)`:

A

increases

B

decreases

C

reamins unaltered

D

changes unparedictably

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
C

`2SO_(3)hArr2SO_(2) + O_(2)`
`Delta H = + ve` endothermic reaction Inert has doesn't show reaction with the reacting mixture it shows effect only due to its volume. At constant volume the change doesn't effect the inert gas. Thus dissociation of `SO_(3)` remains unchanged. V = constant = `Delta n = 0` No effect on the inert gas.
