Calculate the capacity of unknown capacitance is connected across a battery of V volts. The charge stored in it is `360 muC`. When potential across the capacitor is reduced by 120V, the charge stored in it becomes `120 muC`.
Calculate (i) the potential V and unknown capacitance C. (ii) What will be the charge stored in the capacitor. If the voltage applied had increased by 120 V

If capacity in C `muF`, then as per the statement,
`C xx V = 360` …(i)
`C(V - 120) = 120`
Dividing, we get `(C(V-120))/(C xx V) = (120)/(360) = (1)/(3)`
`3 V - 360 = V`
or V = 180 volt
From (i) `C = (360)/(V) = (360)/(180) = 2 muF`
New voltage,
`V' = V + 120 + = 180 + 120 = 300 vol t`
New charge, `Q' = CV' = 2xx300 = 600 muC`
