Define the term 'drift velocity' of charge carriers in a conductor and wire its relationship with the current flowing through it.
Text Solution
Verified by Experts
Drift velocity is the average velocity with which the free electons get drifted towards the positive end of the conductor under the influence of an external electical field applied. The relation between current I and drift velocity `v_(d)` is `I = n A e v_(d)` Where n is the number density of electrons in a condutor of area of cross-section A and e is the charge on electron.
