Two 120 V light bulbs, one of 25 W other of 200 W were connected in series across a 240 V line. One bulb burnt out almost instantaneously. Which one was burnt and why ?

As `R = V^(2)//P or R prop 1//P` , so 25 watt bulb has more resistance than 200 W bulb. In the series circuit, same current flows through both the bulbs. As heat produced `H = I^(2) R t or H prop R` so more heat is produced in 25 W bulb burns out almost instantaneously and circuit is broken.
