Which of the following can't be used in Fridel-Crafts reactions?

A

`FeCl_(3)`

B

`FeBr_(2)`

C

`AlCl_(3)`

D

`NaCl`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

All cations are expected to act as Lewis acid since they are electron deficient in nature. However cations such as `Na^(+),K^(+)` etc. (inert gas configuration) have a very little tendency to accept electrons. Therefore, they do not act as Lewis acids in Friedel-Crafts reaction.
