The Kjeldahl's method is based on the fact that nitrogen of an organic compound is quantitatively converted to `(NH_(4))_(2)SO_(4)` on heating with `H_(2)SO_(4)(`conc.`)`. The `(NH_(4))_(2)SO_(4)` is then treated with `KOH` to liberate `NH_(3)` , which is absorbed in `H_(2)SO_(4)` to obtain `%` of `N`.
