Find the statistical weight of the most ...

Find the statistical weight of the most probable distribution of `N = 10` identical molecules over two halves of the cylinder's volume. Find also the probability of such a distribution.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The statistical weight is
`N_(C_(N//2)) = (N !)/(N//2!(N)/(2)!) = (10 xx 9 xx 8 xx 7 xx 6)/(8 xx 4 xx 3xx 2) = 252`
The probability distribution is
`N_(C_(N//2)) 2^-N = 252 xx 2^-10 = 24.6 %`.
