How much is one safe while taking shelter in a vehicle for protection during lightning?

The steel frame but not the tyres of a hard topped vehi cle can protect ones from lightning in condition that the fellow are not touching metal parts of the vehicle. The lightning charge flows around the outside of the vehicle, creating a partial electric screen and protecting the fellow inside.
