A series LCR circuit is connected to a variable frequency 230 V source , L=5.0 H, `C=80muF,R=40Omega`
Determine the rms potential drop across L and C. Show that at resonance the potential drop across LC combination is zero.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Across `L'V_L=1timesX_L=1omegaL`
`therefore V_L=8.1times50times5=2025V`
Across C, `V_C=1/(omegaC)=8.1/(50times80times10^-6)=2025V`
Potential drop across LC combination `=V_L-V_C=0`
