Which of the following will not form a yellow precipitate on heating with an alkaline solution of iodine?

A

`CH_(3)OH`

B

`CH_(3)CH_(2)OH`

C

`CH_(3)CH(OH)CH_(3)`

D

`CH_(3)CH_(2)CH(OH)CH_(3)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

Formation of a yellow precipiate on heating a compound with an alkaline solution of iodine is know as iodoform reaction. Methyl alcohol does not respond to his test. Iodoform test is exhibited by ethyl alcohol, acetaldehyde, acetone, Methyl ketone and those alcohols which posses `CH_(3)CH(OH)-` group.
