Assertion : Crystals of hydrated calcium sulphate gypsure `(CaSO_(4).2H_(2)O)` are soft easilly eleaved.
Reason :Crystals anldrous calcium sulphate (anydride: `CaSO_(4))` are hard and very difficult to cleave.

A

If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.

B

If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.

C

If assertion is true but reason is false.

D

if assertion is false but reason is true.

The correct Answer is:
b

Within the `Ca^(2+),SO_(4)^(2-)` layers the ions are hold togather by atrong electrovalent bonds but these separated `Ca^(2)//SO_(4)^(2-)` layers are linked by relative weak H- bond The weak H-bonds `SO_(4)^(2-)` ions is the intermediate region consequenity, the hypsum can be readily eleaved and structure along the layer of water molecules .Anlydride has a complrtly ionic structure involvin g only `Ca^(2+)` and `SO_(4)^(2-)` ions.
