The volume of a solid body of mass 490 g is 175 cc. calculate -(i) the density of the solid body, (ii) mass of water displaced bty the solid body when fully immersed, (iii) relative density of the solid. State whether the body float or sink in water.

(i) Density of the solid body`=("Mass")/("Volume")=(490)/(175)g/ c c=2.8` g/cc
(ii) Here the solid body will displace its own volume of water when fully immersed. So, the volume of displaced water is 175 cc As density of water is 1 g /cc, so mass of water displace by the body=volume`xx`density=(`175xx1`)g=175g
(iii) Relative density of this solid`=("Density of solid")/("Density of water")=(2.8g//c.c)/(1g//c.c.)=2.8`
As the relative density for the material of the solid (2.8) is greater than that of water (1), so the solid body will sink in water.
