A wire 30 m long and 2 `m m^(2)` cross-section is stretched by 0.49 cm when a load of 5 kg is hung from its free end. Find (i) longitudinal stress,
(ii) Longitudinal strain.

Here, original length of the wire (l)=30m
area of its cross-section `(A)=2m*m^(2)=2xx10^(-6)m^(2)`
Elongation in length `(Deltal)=0.49cm=4.9xx10^(-3)m`
Load applied `(F)=5kg*wt=(5xx9.8)N`
`therefore ` (i) Longitudinal stress `((F)/(A))=(5xx.98)/(2xx10^(-6))=2.45xx10^(7)N//m^(2)`
(ii) Longitudinal strain `((Deltal)/(l))=(4.9xx10^(-3))/(30)=1.63xx10^(-4)`
