A pendulum clock is running fast. In order to correct it we should

A

reduce the amplitude of oscillation

B

reduce the mass of the bob

C

reduce the length of pendulum

D

increase the length of the pendulum

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

The clock is running fast i.e. its period of oscillations (T) is reduced e.g. If it is a seconds pendulum, its period is reduced from T=2 s to a smaller value like 1.99 s, 1.95s, etc. To correct the clock, we have to increase T as
`T= 2pi sqrt((l)/(g))`, hence we have to increase the length of the pendulum.
Changes in mass and amplitude, will not affect T.
