A mass M attached to a spring oscillates with a period of 1s. If the mass is increased by 3 kg the period increases by 1s. What is the value of M, assuming that Hooke's law is obeyed ?

A

3 kg

B

2 kg

C

1 kg

D

5 kg

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

`T_(1)=2pi sqrt((M)/(K)) and T_(2)=2pi sqrt((M+3)/(K))`
`therefore (T_(2))/(T_(1))=2= sqrt((M+3)/(M)) therefore 4 = (M+3)/(M)`
`therefore 4M =M +3 therefore 1 kg`
