The displacement of a particle in a medi...

The displacement of a particle in a medium can be expressed as
`y=10^(-6)sin(100t+20x+pi//4),`
where x is in metre and t is in second. What is the speed of the wave?

A

5 m/s

B

7.5 m/s

C

10 m/s

D

15 m/s

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

`y = 10^(-6) sin (100 t + 20 x + pi//4)` ….(1)
The standard equation of a travelling wave is
`y = A sin (omega t + Kx + phi)`…(2)
Comparing (1) and (2), we get
`omega = 100 and K = 20`
`:. v = (omega)/(K) = (100)/(20) = 5 m//s`
