Three equal condenser joined in parallel...

Three equal condenser joined in parallel and connected to a cell of 2 volt battery have a charge of `1.8muC`. What charge would they have if they are joined in series?

A

`1.2muC`

B

`0.5muC`

C

`0.2muC`

D

`0.1muC`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
C

When they are joined in parallel, `C_(p)=3C`
`therefore C=(Q)/(V)=(1.8xx10^(-6))/(2)=9xx10^(-7)F`
`therefore`capacity of each`=3xx10^(-7)F`
When they are joined in series.
`therefore`then `(1)/(C_(S))=(1)/(3)+(1)/(3)+(1)/(3)=(3)/(3)=(1)/(1)`
`therefore C_(S)=1xx10^(-7)F" "therefore Q=CV=2xx10^(-7)C=0.2muF`
