Three condensers each of capacity C are ...

Three condensers each of capacity C are joined first in series and then in parallel. If the capacity becomes n times in the second case, what is the value of n?

A

12

B

9

C

6

D

3

The correct Answer is:
B

when they are joined in series,
`(1)/(C_(S))=(1)/(C)+(1)/(C)+(1)/(C)=(3)/(C)`
`therefore C_(S)=(C)/(3)`
When they are joined in parallel, `C_(p)=3C`
It is given that `C_(p)=nC_(S)`
`therefore 3C=nxx(C)/(3)" "therefore n=9`
