Of the two identical galvanometers one is to be converted into an ammeter and another into a milliammeter. Which of the shunts will be of larger resistance?

A

less

B

equal

C

more

D

zero

The correct Answer is:
C

`I_g xx G=(I-I_g)x S therefore S=(I_gG)/(I-I_g)` We find that if we take `(I_g)_1 A` for the ammeter and `(I_g)_2=1 mA` foe he milliameter, then for the same I, the value of shunt required to convert it into a millainmeter is more than that required to convert it into an ammeter.
