An `alpha` particle and a proton are accelerated in such a way that they get the same kinetic energy. What is the ratio of their de- broglie wavelengths ?

A

`1:1`

B

`1:2`

C

`1:3`

D

`3:2`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

`lamda = (h)/(sqrt(2mE))`
Since they have the same energy , `lamda prop 1/sqrtm`
`therefore lamda_alpha/lamda_P = sqrt(m_P/m_alpha) = sqrt(1/4) = 1/2`
