what is the missing particle or nuclide ...

what is the missing particle or nuclide in the box `square`, in the following nuclear reaction ?
`""_7N^14 (square P) ""_6C^14` ?

A

`""_1P^1`

B

`""_(-1)e^0`

C

`""(+1)e^0`

D

`""_0n^1`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
D

We must first understand the meaning of the question. `square` gives the bombarding particle. Thus when `""_7N^14` is bombarded with `square` , we get `""_6C^14 + ""_1H^1 ` ( or a proton )
`therefore` The reaction is `""_7N^14 + ""_0n^1 to ""_6N^14 + ""_1H^1`
i.e. for the conservation of mass charge, the particle must be a neutron `""_0n^1`
[For the bombarding particle , Z = 7 - 6 - 1 = 0 and A = 14 - 1 - 14 = 1. Thus the particle is `""_0n^1` . ]
