Identify the correct order of boiling points of the following compounds: `underset(1)(CH_(3)CH_(2)CH_(2)CH_(2)OH)`, `underset(2)(CH_(3)CH_(2)CH_(2)CHO)`
`underset(3)(CH_(3)CH_(2)CH_(2)COOH)`

A

1 `gt` 2 `gt` 3

B

3 `gt` 1 `gt` 2

C

1 `gt` 3 `gt` 2

D

3 `gt` 2 `gt` 1

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

`-COOH and -OH` group from the hydrogen hydrogen bond by which they have high boiling point `-COOH` ground shown strong hydrogen bonding so it forms dimer and have more boiling point than `-OH` ground. While`-CHO` ground does not form hydrogen bond. Thus the reactivity order are as `3 gt 1 gt 2`.
