Which of the noble gases has the maximum positive `Delta_(eg)H`?

A

`He`

B

`Ne`

C

`Ar`

D

`Kr`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

`Delta_(eg)H` becomes less and less positive from `Ne` onwards on account of increase of atomic size. Unusulaly low positive `Delta_(eg)H` for `He` is related to its very small size which leads to relatively greater attraction towards the nucleus. The correct order of decreasing positive `Delta_(eg)H` is
`Negt Argt Kr gt Xegt Rn gt He`
