Which of the following numerical scales of electrongativity `(EN)` uses the concept of bond energies?

A

Pauling scale

B

Mulliken-Jaffe scale

C

Allred-Rochow scale

D

Senderson scale

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

Unlike `Delta_(i)H` and `Delta_(eg)H,EN` is not a measurable quantity. It is a relative number. A number of numerical scales of electronegativity of elements have beem been developed. The most widly used Pauling scale is based on bond energies. The Allred-Rochow scale uses the concept of `Z_(eff)` to derive electronegativity values and is widely used among inorganic chemists. Mulliken used the average of `Delta_(i)H` and `Delta_(eg)H` to derive the electronegativtiy values. The apporach was further developed by jaffe.
