Althought alkali metals have similar chemical properties yet they do not occur together mainly because their ions are of different sizes. Similarly, alkaline earth metals usually do not occur together except dolomite which is a double carbonate of Ca and Mg `(MgCO_(3).CaCO_(3))`. Likewise, same double salts of alkali and alkaline earth metals such as carnallite `(KCI.MgCI_(2).6H_(2)O)` are also known to occur in nature.
