because alkali metals are strongly basic (electropositive), they form solid bicarbonates (also called hydrogen carbonates). Lithium is exceptional in that is dows not form a solid bicarbonate (on account of low latice enthalpy), though `LiHCO_(3)` can exist in solution on account of high hydration enthalpy of `Li^(+)` ion.
