A `110-`watt `100-`volt incandescent lamp is connectfedin series with an electrolytic cell containing cadmium sulphate solution. The mass of cadmium deposited by the current flowing for `1` hour (at mass of `Cd = 112`) is

A

`1.9 g`

B

`3.8 g`

C

`0.19 g`

D

`0.38 g`

The correct Answer is:
A

If an incandescent bulb of `W` watts is connected in series with an electrolytic cell, the following equation can be used to calculate `I` in ampers.
`W = IV`
where `V` is the voltage in volt
Therefore `I = (W)/(V) = (110)/(100) A`
According to Faraday's laws
`(m)/(E) = (It)/(F)`
or `m = (It E)/(F)`
`((110//100 A)(3600 s)(112//2 g eq.^(-1)))/((96500 C eq.^(-1))) = 2.30 g`
