Wilkinson's catalyst has the formula

A

`Co(acac)_(3)`

B

`p[Co(N_(2))(H)(PPh_(3))_(3)]`

C

`[Ir(CO)(CI)(PPh_(3))_(2)]`

D

`[Rh(CI)(PPh_(3))_(3)]`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

Wilkinson's catalyst `[Rh(C1)(PPh_(3))_(3)]` is red-videt in colour, and is made by refluxing `RhC1_(3)` . `3H_(2)O` with triphenylhosphine. It has a square planar structure. It is very effective for selective hydrogenation of organic molecules at room temperature and presure. Alkene groups at the end of a chain (alk-1-enes) are hyrogenated but double bonds elsewhere in the chain are not affected. It is of importance in the pharmaceutical industry.
