Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
C

Starch and cellulose are two ubiquitous plant polysaccharides consisting of only D- glucose units. Upon treatment with acid or under the influence of enzymes, starch as well as cellulose are hydrolyzed finally to `D - (+) -` glucose.
Cellulose differs from starch in having `beta- 1 , 4-` glucosidic linkages and not `alpha`. The chains are mainly linear with little branching. Cellulose has more glucose unit giving it a higher molecular mass.
