A Copper wire and steel of the same diameter and length are connected end to end and a force is applied, which stretches their combined length by 1 cm. The two wires will have

A

the same stress

B

different stress

C

the same strain

D

different strain

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A, D

Both wires have same diameters i.e, same cross sectional area.
If deforming force, `F` is same on the wire then equal strss will be develop.
`("Strain")_("Steel") = ("Stress")/(Y_("steel"))`
`("strain")_("copper") = ("stress")/(Y_("copper"))`
Becuase of having differnent young's modulus, the two wires will have different strain.
