The correct Answer is:
B

Half-life of radioactive element is defined as the time during which half the number of atoms present initially in the sample of the element decay or it is time during which number of atoms left undecayed in the sample is half the total number of atoms present initially in the sample. it is denoted by T.
In `t=T`
`N=(N_(0))/(2)`
In another half-life `N=(1)/(2)((N_(0))/(4))=(N_(0))/(8)`
`N=N_(0)((1)/(2))^(3)` and so on
hence, after n half-lives
`N=N_(0)((1)/(2))^(n)=N_(0)((1)/(2))^(t//T)implies0.5=8((1)/(2))^(n)`
or `(0.5)/(8)=((1)/(2))^(n)implies ((1)/(2))^(4)=((1)/(2))^(n)`
`therefore n=4`
As, `n=(t)/(T)`
`therefore T=(t)/(n)=(1xx60)/(4)=15` min

14 g of a radioactive substance decays to 7 g in 20 min. Will the time required be more or less the following processes: i. 20 g decreases by 8 g ii. 20 g decreases to 8 g . Explain

Assertion Two different radioactive substances have initially same number of nuclei. Their decay constants are lamda_(1)and lamda_(2)(ltlamda_(1)). Then, initially first radioactiv substance decays at faster rate. Reason Half-life of first radioactive substance is less.
