What is the apparent of a body of mass m attached at the end of a string and which is just completing the loop in a vertical circle , at the lowest point in its path ?

A

`0`

B

`mg`

C

`3 mg`

D

`6 mg`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

The apparent weight of the body moving in a vertical circle is the tension in the string . When it is at the lowest point ,
`T_(1) = (mv^2)/(r ) +mg `
But for just completing the vertical circle , it should be given a velocity ` v= sqrt(5gr)`
` therefore T_1 = (m)/(r ) = (5gr) +mg = 5 mg +mg = 6 mg `
