Two particles P and Q start from a point on a circle at time t=0 . They travel in opposite directions along a circular path of radius 10 m at constant speeds of `V_(p ) =2.14 m//s and V_(Q ) = 1m//s ` . After what -time they will collide ?

A

5s

B

10s

C

15s

D

20s

The correct Answer is:
D

Suppose that P and Q collide after time t. P is moving in the anticlokwise direction and in time t it will cover a distance `S_(1) = V_(P) xxt`
` therefore S_(1) = (2.14) t`
and Q will cover a distance `S_(2) = V_(Q) xxt =1xxt`

But ` S_(1) +S_(2) = 2pi R `
` therefore (2.14 +1) t=2 pi xx10`
`3.14 t= 20xx3.14 " " therefore t= 20 s`
`therefore ` They will collide after 20 s .
