A straight wire of diameter `0.5 mm` carrying a current of `1 A` is replaced by another wire of `1 mm` diameter carrying the same current. The strength of magnetic field far away is

A

Twice the fiest value

B

Same as the first value

C

One-half of the first value

D

One-quarter of the first value

The correct Answer is:
B

The strength of the magnetic field due to a straight conductor, carrtying a current I is given by
`B=((mu_(0))/(4pi))((2I)/(r))i.e. B prop I`
In the second case, the same current passes through the wire.
Hence the new field will have the same value as in the first case. The diameter of the wire does not affect the value of B.
