The vapour pressure of a solution of the...

The vapour pressure of a solution of the liquids A `(p^(@)=80m m Hg and X _(A) =0.4) and (p^(@) =120 mn Hg and X _(B) =0.6)` is found to be 100 mm Hg. It shows that the solution exhibits

A

positive deviation from ideal behaviour

B

negative deviation from ideal behaviour

C

ideal behaviour

D

positive deviation for lower cone. and negative for higher cone.

The correct Answer is:
B

`p _("total") = p_(A)^(@)x x _(A) +p_(B)^(@) x x_(B)`
`=80.0 x0.4 +120.0 x0.6 =10` 4m m Hg
Thte observed ` P _("total")` is 100 mm Hg which is less then 104 mm Hg. Hence the solutio shows negative dcviation.

The vapour pressure of the solution of two liquids A (P^@=80mm) and B (P^@=120mm) is found to 100mm when x_(A)=0.4 .The result shows that

The vapour pressure of a pure liquid A is 40 mm Hg at 310 K . The vapour pressure of this liquid in a solution with liquid B is 32 mm Hg . The mole fraction of A in the solution, if it obeys Raoult's law, is:

Total vapour pressure of mixture of 1 mole of volatile component A (P_(A)^(@)=100 mm Hg) and 3 mole of volatile component B (P_(B)^(@)=80 mm Hg) is 90 mm Hg . For such case :

Total vapour pressure of mixture of 1 mole of volaile components A ( P_(a^(%) )=100 mm Hg) and 3 mole of volatile component B( P_B^(@) =80 mm Hg ) is 90 mm Hg. For such case:
