Two thermally insulated vessels 1 and 2 ...

Two thermally insulated vessels 1 and 2 are filled with air and connected by a short tube equipped with a valve. The volumes of the vessels, the pressures and temperature of air in them are know `(V_1,p_1,T_1` and `V_2,p_2,T_2`). Find the air temperature and pressure established after the opening of the valve.

After opening of valve, the pressure and temperature in two chambers becomes same (after long time).

Since number of moles remains same
`n_1+n_2=n'_1+n'_2`
`(p_1V_1)/(RT_1)+(p_2V_2)/(RT_2)=(pV_1)/(RT)+(pV_2)/(RT)`
`(p_1V_1)/(T_1)+(p_2V_2)/(T_2)=(p)/(T)(V_1+V_2)` .(i)
Since vessel is insulated, total internal energy remains same
`U_1+U_2=U'_1+U'_2`
`n_1C_VT_1+n_2C_VT_2=n'_1C_VT+n'_2C_VT`
`(p_1V_1)/(R)+(p_2V_2)/(R)=(pV_1)/(R)+(pV_2)/(R)`
Common pressure: `p=(p_1V_1+p2V_2)/(V_1+V_2)`
Common temperature: `T=(p(V_1+V_2))/((p_1V_1)/(T_1)+(p_2V_2)/(T_2))=(p_1V_1+p_2V_2)/((p_1V_1)/(T_1)+(p_2V_2)/(T_2))`
