If I0 is the intensity of the principal ...

If `I_0` is the intensity of the principal maximum in the single slit diffraction pattern. Then what will be its intensity when the slit width is doubled?

A

`I_(0)`

B

`I_(0)//2`

C

`(1)/(2)I_(0)`

D

`4I_(0)`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A

`I = I_(0)((sin phi)/(phi))^(2)` Where `phi` is path difference for principal maxima, `phi = 0` Hence, intensity will remain same `(= I_(0))` Increaseing the width of the slit will make the central peak more narrow.
