What is Domain and range of a relation?

The nature of relationship often limits the domain and range of a function.  For example, you toss a ball into the air and consider the occurrence of the function of time and height when you catch it. Here input is the time where output is the height. Every value of time is the domain during the throw where it gets counted instantly when the ball leaves your hand till it returns. If we assume that the ball was in the air for 8 seconds, then the domain would be 0-8 seconds

On the other hand, the height of the ball when it was thrown is the range.  If your hand was 4 feet above the ground while throwing and catching the ball and the height it flew was 14 feet off the ground then we can say that the range is 4-14 feet.  This is because of the reason that during this interval, height changes continuously. So, it is not possible to write down every possible output where the starting and stopping values can be noted.
