Find the sum of the intercepts cut off b...

Find the sum of the intercepts cut off by the plane `2x+yz=5` , on the coordinate axes.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Equation of plane,
`2x+y-z = 5`
Equation of plane in intercept form,
`(2x)/5+y/5-z/5 = 1`
`=>x/(5/2)+y/5+z/(-5) = 1`
Comparing the above equation with the standard intercept form,
`x/a+y/c+z/c = 1`
We get the intercepts as, `a = 5/2, b = 5, c = -5`
