What will be the molecular formula of a ...

What will be the molecular formula of a polypeptide consisting of 10 glycine when the formula of glycine is `C_(2)H_(5)O_(2)N_(5)` N ?

A

`C_(6)H_(12)ON_(5)`

B

`C_(20)H_(32)O_(11)N_(10)`

C

`C_(30)H_(16)O_(6)N_(10)`

D

`C_(25)H_(16)O_(6)N_(5)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

A polypeptide is formed by the condensation of glycine monomers, i.e., by the eliminetion of one water molecule during the formation of each peptide bond. When `10` glycine `(C_(2)H_(5)O_(2)N)`, molecules participate, `9H_(2)O` molecules are eliminated. Thus resulting polypeptide will prossess the molecular formula `C_(20) H_(32)O_(11)N_(10)`.
