In the previous problem

A

The transfer of energy will be maximum if `m_(1) = m_(2)`

B

The transfer of velocity will be maximum if `m_(2) gtgt m_(1)`

C

The transfer of velocity will be maximum if `m_(1) gt gt m_(2)`

D

All options are correct

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
D

(i) Refer to the previous solution,
`(m_(1) + m_(2))^(2) = (m_(1) - m_(2))^(2) + 4 m_(1) m_(2)`
`(m_(1) + m_(2))^(2)` will be minimum , if `m_(1) = m_(2)` , i.e.
`(4 m_(1) m_(2))/((m_(1) + m_(2))^(2))` is maximum
(ii) `m_(2) v_(2) = ( 2m_(1) m_(2) u)/((m_(1) + m_(2))) = ( 2m_(1) u)/((1 + (m_(1))/(m_(2)))`
`m_(2) v_(2)` will be maximum if `m_(2) gt gt m_(1)`
`v_(2) = ( 2m_(1) u)/(m_(1) + m_(2)) = ( 2u)/(1 + (m_(2))/(m_(1)))`
`v_(2)` will be maximum if `m_(1) gtgt m_(2)`.
